Am I registered to vote? Use the TN Voter Registration Lookup.

Voter registration does not automatically transfer when an individual moves from another county. Cocke County residents should check their voter registration status before the voter registration deadline to ensure they are registered to vote in Cocke County. Voter registration deadline is 30 days before the election date.

In-Person Voter Registration. Available at the Cocke County Election Commission office, Courthouse Annex, 360 E. Main St., Room 130, Newport, TN 37821, Mon. - Fri. 8 a.m. through 4 p.m., Closed holidays.

Online Voter Registration (available through GoVoteTN.gov).

By-Mail Voter Registration. Download a Tennessee Voter Registration Application (pdf), print, complete, and mail the form to 360 E. Main St., Room 130, Newport, TN 37821.

August 1, 2024 - Federal and State Primary & County General.

SAMPLE BALLOT - Cocke County, August 1, 2024. Voters may choose Republican Primary with General Election, Democratic Primary with General Election, or General Election only. Each voter receives the General Election ballot specific to their County District.

Absentee By-Mail Requests: First day to request a by-mail ballot is May 3, 2024. Absentee application will be posted in May.

2024 Cocke County Elections

March 5, 2024 - Presidential Preference Primary; County Primary (Assessor of Property Primary).

August 1, 2024 - Federal and State Primary (U.S. Senate Primary; U.S. House 1 Primary; Tennessee House 11 Primary); County General Election (Assessor of Property General Election; County School Board Districts 3, 5, 7 General Election).

November 5, 2024 - Presidential Election (Electors for President and Vice President of the United States); Federal and State General Election (U.S. Senate General Election; U.S. House 1 General Election; Tennessee House 11 General Election); Newport School Board Election (Three [3] At-Large City School Board Members General Election).

Absentee By-Mail Voting

The first day to request an absentee by-mail ballot for the August election is May 3, 2024.

Most voters need to complete a separate by-mail ballot application for each election in which they want to vote by-mail. (Exceptions apply for overseas voters, active duty armed forces members, and dependents of active duty armed forces members.)

Unless you are on the permanent absentee voting register, enrolled in the Safe at Home program, or you have previously voted in the county of registration, you must appear in-person to vote in the first election after you have registered by-mail or online at GoVoteTN.gov. Restoration of Voting Rights in Tennessee

Voting rights restoration paperwork should be completed as soon as possible so, if approved, the individual could have time to register to vote by the deadline. Visit the Tennessee SOS website for more information on eligibility to vote after a felony conviction, or contact the Cocke County Election Commission office.

In Cocke County, the County Commissioner Districts also serve as the districts for Constables, Road Commissioners, and County School Board Members. Cocke County Election Results

The Cocke County Election Commission office:

  • Manages all voter registration in Cocke County and all voter list maintenance;

  • Plans and implements all elections in Cocke County, including federal, state, county, and municipal;

  • Provides election information to residents and prospective voters;

  • Maintains candidate and referendum records, including nominating petitions and local campaign financial reports;

  • Complies with all state law and promulgated rules regarding elections in the State of Tennessee and monitors legislation and updates for changes to the law or rules.
